چکیده اصلی

PURPOSE: To review the existing literature on the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors in the management of locally advanced periocular squamous cell carcinoma (POLA-SCC) and to contextualize current evidence through a representative clinical case. METHODS: A narrative review of published studies evaluating programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibition for advanced periocular cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma was performed. In addition, a detailed case of recurrent upper eyelid squamous cell carcinoma treated with multiple surgical excisions followed by PD-1 inhibitor therapy is presented to illustrate real-world clinical challenges and outcomes. RESULTS: A 75-year-old man with upper eyelid SCC experienced rapid local recurrence despite repeated margin-controlled excisions and complex reconstructive procedures, resulting in significant eyelid dysfunction, ocular surface disease, and visual decline. Subsequent treatment with the PD-1 inhibitor cemiplimab achieved meaningful tumor control and disease stabilization. Review of the current literature demonstrates consistently high response rates to PD-1 inhibition in locally advanced periocular SCC, even in the presence of tumors with perineural invasion and orbital involvement, frequently allowing avoidance of mutilating surgical procedures such as orbital exenteration. Immune checkpoint inhibitors were generally well tolerated, with ocular adverse events being uncommon and typically manageable. CONCLUSIONS: Accumulating evidence supports immune checkpoint inhibition as an effective, eye-sparing, and vision-sparing therapeutic strategy for locally advanced periocular squamous cell carcinoma. Integration of PD-1 inhibitors into multidisciplinary management paradigms may reduce surgical morbidity, preserve ocular function, and shift treatment toward more conservative approaches in appropriately selected patients.

Albiflorin suppresses breast cancer via the HINT2/NLRP3 signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) remains a significant global health threat with complex pathogenesis often linked to chemotherapy resistance and inflammatory microenvironments. Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 2 (HINT2) is a mitochondrial protein involved in metabolism and immunity, but its specific role in BC and potential as a therapeutic target require further elucidation. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to identify novel ther…

Concordance of Microbiological and Histopathological Examination of Bone Biopsies in Diagnosing Diabetic Foot Osteomyelitis, a Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) is a serious complication of diabetic foot ulcers and is associated with increased risk of amputation, morbidity, and mortality. Bone biopsy remains the most definitive diagnostic modality, yet controversy persists over its diagnostic utility This study reviews the diagnostic concordance of histopathology and microbiology in bone biopsy specimens from patients with DFO and examines the clin…

Effect of Chinese medicine compound on intestinal bifidobacteria recovery and CD4+ T-Cell activation in postoperative chemotherapy patients with breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative chemotherapy for breast cancer often leads to intestinal dysbiosis and immune suppression. Traditional Chinese medicine shows potential in regulating gut microbiota and enhancing immune function, offering a promising adjunctive therapeutic strategy. OBJECTIVES: To explore the effects of a traditional Chinese medicine compound on the recovery of intestinal bifidobacteria and CD4+ T-cell activation in breast can…

Improved transcutaneous delivery of cetirizine hydrochloride for the treatment of post-chemotherapy alopecia: Poke and emulgel approach.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy-induced alopecia negatively impacts the mental health of cancer patients. Topical minoxidil, a widely recommended drug for hair regrowth, causes scalp irritation and contact dermatitis. Oral minoxidil causes multiple cardiovascular and neurological side effects. Cetirizine hydrochloride, an antihistamine with a better safety profile than minoxidil, may stimulate hair follicle activity by modulating prostaglandi…
