چکیده اصلی

OBJECTIVES: to describe the biography of Tereza de Jesus Sena, highlighting her contributions to psychiatric and mental health nursing education and practice. METHODS: this biographical study used historical analysis to triangulate sources and interpret the chronologically organized data in context. Data were collected from August to December 2023. RESULTS: three categories emerged: Personal data, education, and early professional career; Formal appointment and recognition as a Psychiatric Nursing instructor; and Sena's relationship with the development of psychiatric nursing in Brazil. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: the Ceará-born nurse stood out for her work in the states of Bahia, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. She devoted herself to her work and to disseminating knowledge through education as tools to transform the psychiatric and mental health field, becoming a mentor of subjectivity-attuned care and of modern teaching for her time.
