BACKGROUND: Thyroid dysfunction has emerged as a significant contributor to global public health challenges, with mounting evidence indicating its impact on cognitive function. METHODS: The current literature was synthesized to examine the association between thyroid dysfunction and cognitive impairments, the underlying neural mechanisms, and potential therapeutic approaches. RESULTS: A critical gap identified in this review is the incomplete understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying thyroid-related cognitive decline, which hampers the development of targeted interventions. CONCLUSION: Neurofeedback is examined as a potential therapeutic approach for cognitive rehabilitation, and future research directions are proposed to advance this field.

Site-specific transdermal delivery of Qingteng Waifu San in a rheumatoid arthritis rabbit model.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by synovial inflammation, joint swelling, pain, cartilage destruction and bone erosion. Qingteng Waifu San is an external sinomenine-containing preparation, but its site-specific transdermal response requires disease-relevant evaluation. OBJECTIVES: To compare Zusanli (ST36)-site and adjacent non-acupoint transdermal application of Qingteng Waifu San in…

Early Emergence of Cultural Differences in Audiovisual Speech Perception.

Integrating auditory and visual cues is a hallmark of human speech perception, yet adults from East Asian backgrounds show less reliance on visual speech than their Western counterparts. The origins of this cultural difference, however, remain unknown. To investigate whether this divergence is established early in infancy, we examined audiovisual integration in 6- to 12-month-old White Canadian (n = 111) and Chinese (n = 115) infants u…
