چکیده اصلی

Glaucoma is among the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide. It is increasingly being recognized as a complex and multifactorial disease with diverse pathogenesis. Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) remains the primary modifiable risk factor and continues to be the cornerstone of current glaucoma management. The accumulating evidence provided clinical insights that factor beyond IOP may also influence disease onset and progression. In the recent era, chronic stress has emerged out to be one such factor and has been linked to alteration in neuroendocrine, autonomic, and inflammatory pathways. The evolving concept of Psycho-Neuro-Endocrine-Immunology (PNEI) provides an integrative framework to examine these interactions and their possible relevance to glaucoma pathophysiology. The narrative review was carried out on existing evidence that relates biology of stress to glaucoma within the framework of "PNEI" and "Allostatic load." In addition, it will also explore the potential role of mindfulness meditation to serve as a nonpharmacological adjunct capable of modulating key PNEI pathways, which include cortisol regulation, autonomic balance, neuroinflammation, and oxidative stress. The evidence available to date is encouraging regarding the effects of mindfulness-based interventions. However, the current literature is limited by considerable variability in study designs, intervention protocol, outcome measures, and duration of follow-up. Larger prospective studies with standardized intervention and longer follow-up are needed to clarify the role of mindfulness-based intervention in glaucoma care. Integration of PNEI-based approaches may offer a conceptual framework for future research in holistic glaucoma care, pending validation of long-term clinical outcomes.

[THE TRADITIONAL AND COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION: ANALYSIS OF EVIDENCE BASE AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF INTEGRATION].

The article considers placement of methods of traditional and complementary medicine in the public health system of the Russian Federation, focusing on prevention and management of chronic non-communicable diseases. The analysis of the evidence base on key methods of traditional and complementary medicine (acupuncture, phytotherapy, homeopathy, manual therapy, osteopathy) was carried out, including differentiated estimate of level of e…

Site-specific transdermal delivery of Qingteng Waifu San in a rheumatoid arthritis rabbit model.

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by synovial inflammation, joint swelling, pain, cartilage destruction and bone erosion. Qingteng Waifu San is an external sinomenine-containing preparation, but its site-specific transdermal response requires disease-relevant evaluation. OBJECTIVES: To compare Zusanli (ST36)-site and adjacent non-acupoint transdermal application of Qingteng Waifu San in…

Early Emergence of Cultural Differences in Audiovisual Speech Perception.

Integrating auditory and visual cues is a hallmark of human speech perception, yet adults from East Asian backgrounds show less reliance on visual speech than their Western counterparts. The origins of this cultural difference, however, remain unknown. To investigate whether this divergence is established early in infancy, we examined audiovisual integration in 6- to 12-month-old White Canadian (n = 111) and Chinese (n = 115) infants u…

Effects of Aromatherapy on Stress and Anxiety Among Intensive Care Unit Nurses: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Nurses working in intensive care units (ICU) are at high risk for stress and anxiety. Aromatherapy stands out as a non-pharmacological and easily implementable complementary approach for alleviating these symptoms. To our knowledge, this is the first systematic review specifically examining the effects of aromatherapy on stress and anxiety among ICU nurses. AIMS: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effects of aroma…
