PURPOSE: As rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects both the patient and their significant others, the aim of this study is to describe the views and experiences of significant others of persons with contemporary treated RA. METHODS: Patients at rehabilitation clinics in southeast Sweden were asked to invite significant others to participate in individual semi-structured interviews. Sixteen significant others accepted. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS: Experiences were described through three themes: 1) A need to be involved and informed: significant others described how they were provided information, but also felt left out and uninformed; 2) Help and support go both ways: patients and their significant others were big supports to each other; however, significant others were in need of more support themselves; 3) Making everyday life work: they had found routines in everyday life, but had lost certain activities and, experienced pressure to adopt a caring role. CONCLUSIONS: Significant others of persons with RA report lacking information and limited involvement in rehabilitation. In order for significant others to provide the best possible support, attention should be paid to their needs. If given the right conditions, significant others can potentially reduce the burden on the healthcare system.

Dose-Response Relationship Between Physical Activity and Intrinsic Capacity Decline Among Hospitalised Older Patients.

OBJECTIVE: Intrinsic capacity (IC) serves as the foundation for functional performance in older adults, and its decline exerts a significant negative impact on their overall health status. However, the dose-response relationship between physical activity (PA) and IC decline is unclear. The objective of this study was to examine the dose-response relationship between PA and IC decline in hospitalised older adults. METHODS: This cross-se…

Focused Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy Versus Therapeutic Ultrasound as Adjuncts to Exercise-Based Rehabilitation for Functional Limitation in Ankylosing Spondylitis: An Assessor-Blinded Randomized Comparative Trial.

BACKGROUND: The comparative effectiveness of adjunctive physical modalities alongside exercise for ankylosing spondylitis (AS) remains inadequately evaluated. OBJECTIVE: To compare the relative association of focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) versus therapeutic ultrasound, both added to identical exercise-based rehabilitation, with long-term functional outcomes in AS. METHODS: This assessor-blinded randomized comparative…

Ultrasound-guided high-voltage vs conventional pulsed radiofrequency in elderly cervical radiculopathy: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Elderly patients with cervical radiculopathy present therapeutic challenges owing to comorbidities and medication-related risks. Long-term pharmacotherapy and surgical interventions are often suboptimal, necessitating evaluation of optimized pulsed radiofrequency strategies under image guidance. OBJECTIVES: This superiority trial compared the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided cervical nerve root high-voltage pulsed r…
