چکیده اصلی

This study evaluated the dose-dependent effects of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum-fermented noni juice (OLP-FNJ) on growth performance and intestinal physiology in Thai native chickens (Surat Thani strain). A total of 240 birds were randomly allocated to four treatments (0, 2.5, 5.0, and 10.0 mL L-1 OLP-FNJ administered via drinking water) in a completely randomized design and reared for 16 weeks. Growth performance, serum biochemical indices, digestive enzyme activities, intestinal morphology, tight junction-related and immune-related gene expression, and cecal microbiota composition were evaluated. Dose-response relationships were assessed using polynomial regression analysis. OLP-FNJ supplementation exerted a significant linear dose-response reduction in feed conversion ratio over the entire experimental period (3.11 vs. 2.70; linear p < 0.001) and significantly increased body weight gain during the starter phase (280.06 vs. 307.08 g; linear p < 0.05). The greatest numerical responses were observed at 10.0 mL L-1 without adverse effects. Performance enhancement was associated with increased digestive enzyme activities, greater villus height-crypt depth ratios, upregulation of tight junction-related genes, and reduced expression of pro-inflammatory markers. Cecal microbial diversity increased in a dose-dependent manner, accompanied by shifts in dominant bacterial phyla and an elevated Firmicutes-to-Bacteroidetes ratio. Serum biochemical parameters remained within physiological ranges, indicating systemic safety. In conclusion, OLP-FNJ enhanced nutrient utilization efficiency in a dose-dependent manner and was associated with coordinated changes in digestive, structural, barrier, immune, and microbial functions. Fermented noni juice shows potential as a functional drinking-water additive to support sustainable production of Thai native chickens.

Britanin improved high-fat diet-induced obesity by regulating the MAPK signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND: The escalating prevalence of obesity has made it a critical public health concern. There is an urgent need to identify naturally derived compounds with anti-obesity potential. Britanin (BRI), a bioactive sesquiterpene lactone derived from Inula species, has shown promise in metabolic disorder management, but its anti-obesity mechanisms remain uncharacterized. OBJECTIVES: Combining animal experiments and network pharmacology…

Interleukin-17A Links Obesity-Induced Inflammation to Behavioral Disorders and Autonomic Imbalance.

Obesity is increasingly recognized as a chronic inflammatory condition, often driven by prolonged high-fat diet (HFD) consumption. Beyond causing metabolic dysregulation, obesity can disrupt immune-brain communication, contributing to the development of emotional disorders. During the early stages of HFD exposure, proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β), Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and IL-6 are markedly elevat…

Refining Genetic Instruments for Dietary Intake Mendelian Randomization Using Phenome-Wide Association Studies.

Most Mendelian randomization (MR) of dietary intake use the full set of genome-wide significant (GWS) variants in the instrumental variable (IV), likely biasing causal estimates due to pleiotropy. To characterize the common methods to handle pleiotropy in dietary intake MR, we conducted a scoping review of the literature on dietary intake MR studies. We extracted information on IV construction, assessment of pleiotropy, and sensitivity…

Choosing Not to Eat Meat: What Characterizes Independently Vegetarian Children?

A growing body of research has aimed to map the characteristics of extraordinary altruists-such as those who have donated a kidney to a stranger. However, this research has primarily focused on adults, and we know little about the development of extraordinary altruism. While children cannot donate their organs to strangers nor large portions of their income to charity, they can choose not to eat animals. In this study we examine indepe…
