چکیده اصلی
AIM: We examined the association between family support during fertility treatment and loneliness at the first clinical consultation. METHODS: Data from 204 women with infertility who first visited the Reproduction Center of a university hospital in Tochigi Prefecture between May 2024 and December 2025 and completed both a medical intake questionnaire and a web-based survey were analyzed. Family support from partners, own parents, and parents-in-law was assessed. Loneliness was measured using the three-item UCLA Loneliness Scale. Multivariable regression analyses were adjusted for sociodemographic, clinical, and psychosocial covariates, including adverse childhood experiences. RESULTS: Among participants, 30.9% and 46.6% had not disclosed infertility treatment to their own parents and parents-in-law, respectively. Lower perceived support from parents-in-law and nondisclosure to parents-in-law were significantly associated with greater loneliness, whereas support from partners and own parents was not. CONCLUSION: Disclosure to and support from parents-in-law may be particularly associated with lower level of loneliness at the initial consultation among women undergoing infertility treatment.
