چکیده اصلی

A complex cavity is so named because it results from damage to the enamel-dentin complex, and such cavities can cause patients considerable difficulties in daily life. The reconstruction of damaged areas with synthetic restorative materials requires careful consideration of the unique functional properties of natural enamel and dentin, whose inherent characteristics remain superior to those of any synthetic restorative material currently available. The objective of this article was to organize the available information on indirect adhesive restorations for complex cavities, with particular emphasis on the factors and techniques that require consideration during clinical procedures. An electronic search was performed in MEDLINE/PubMed, the Web of Science and Google Scholar. The articles included in this study comprised randomized controlled trials (RCTs), clinical trials, clinical reports, reviews, and laboratory studies. The amount of the remaining natural tooth structure directly affects the longevity of the restored tooth. The remarkable properties of natural enamel and dentin have long been recognized, and bondable restorative materials have therefore been continuously developed with the aim of preserving these natural tissues and reinforcing the remaining tooth structure through effective adhesion. Even when a large portion of the tooth structure has been destroyed, conservative treatment can often still be performed, allowing the benefits of these advanced techniques to be achieved. All aspects of the procedure need to be considered, including material selection, cavity design and preparation, cavity and restoration surface preparation, and the cementation procedure. Additional techniques, including immediate dentin sealing (IDS) and the controversial deep margin elevation technique, are also addressed in this article.

EFCD Expert Non-Consensus on Material and Technique Use for Direct Class II Composites With Guidance on Restoring Complex Cavities.

PURPOSE: There is confusion over the indications, techniques, and material choices for placing direct class II composite restorations among general dentists. This paper synthesizes new data on the general frequency of use of materials and techniques by experts, with a previous related paper that explored if and how experts restored specific class II cavities with varying complexities. It aimed to see if consensus on technique and mater…

Effect of different intra-canal restorative techniques on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated anterior teeth: an in-vitro comparative study.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of different intra‑canal restorative techniques on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated anterior teeth and to assess the influence of marginal ridge loss on their mechanical behavior. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety extracted sound maxillary central and lateral incisors were selected and randomly divided into five groups. Ten teeth were left intact to serve as the control group, while the re…

How laser etching affects the clinical performance of a "no-wait" universal adhesive: 36-month results.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the 36-month clinical performance of a no-wait universal adhesive in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) according to etching method and application mode. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-one participants with at least five NCCLs received 215 restorations, which were randomly assigned to five groups according to five surface-conditioning and adhesive application protocols: Enamel and dentin etching with phosphoric a…

Fluorescence compatibility of various resin composites on cervical restorations: An in-vitro evaluation.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the fluorescence compatibility of five resin composite materials in cervical restorations using multiple assessment techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty extracted A2 shade human molars were selected, and standardized Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces. The cavities were restored using five resin composite materials (n = 8). Fluorescence images were obtained using three assessment techniques…
