چکیده اصلی

AIM: To provide information including the trend of gynecological malignancies in Japan, we hereby present the Annual Patient Report for 2023 and the Annual Treatment Report for 2018 on the outcomes of patients who started treatment in 2018. METHODS: The Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology maintains an annual tumor registry, where information on gynecological malignancies from various participating institutions is gathered. The data of patients whose treatment with gynecologic malignancies was initiated in 2023 were analyzed retrospectively. Survival of the patients who started treatment with cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancer in 2018 was analyzed by using the Kaplan-Meier, log-rank, and Wilcoxon tests. RESULTS: Treatment was initiated in 2023 for 8061 patients with cervical cancer, 15 455 with endometrial cancer, 8844 with ovarian, tubal, and peritoneal cancer, 2316 with ovarian borderline tumors, and with the others (230 vulvar cancer, 157 vaginal cancer, 533 uterine sarcoma, 54 uterine adenosarcoma, 132 trophoblastic diseases). This clinicopathological information was summarized as the Patient Annual Report. The 5-year survival rates of the patients who initiated treatment in 2018 were as follows. For cervical cancer, the rates were 92.6%, 75.7%, 57.3%, and 25.9% for Stages I, II, III, and IV, respectively. For endometrial cancer, the rates were 94.3%, 88.3%, 75.2%, and 32.1% for Stages I, II, III, and IV, respectively. For ovarian cancer, the rates were 90.9%, 79.2%, 53.4%, and 41.1% for Stages I, II, III, and IV, respectively. CONCLUSION: The annual tumor report is an important survey that provides knowledge on gynecological malignancy trends in Japan.

AA and Male Fertility.

AA is known to play a significant role in male fertility. AA metabolites, prostaglandins (PGs), were first discovered in the seminal fluid. It was assumed at the time of its discovery that PGs were formed by the prostate and hence were named as prostaglandins. PGs are crucial for sperm function. Lower PGE2 in the semen was found in those who are infertile. NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen) are known to aff…

Epigenetic role of miR-574 in sperm chromatin remodeling and developmental gene networks in male infertility.

CONTEXT: The epigenetic factors underlying varicocele and idiopathic infertility are still poorly understood, despite established pathophysiological mechanisms. AIMS: This study assessed sperm miR-574 expression in infertile males with or without varicocele and fertile controls, evaluating its relationship with semen parameters and chromatin condensation. METHODS: Thirty-eight participants were included, comprising idiopathic infertile…

NR4A1-Driven Granulosa Cell Ferroptosis Contributes to Obesity-Related Ovarian Dysfunction and Metformin-Mediated Ovarian Protection.

Obesity triggers ovarian dysfunction and female infertility accompanied by granulosa cell damage. Ferroptosis, iron-dependent lipid peroxidation-mediated cell death, participates in multiple reproductive diseases, yet the molecular cascade linking metabolic obesity to granulosa ferroptosis remains undefined. Using high-fat diet obese mice, primary human granulosa cells from obese infertile patients, and KGN cell lines, we identified th…

Possible role of bacterial infection in embryo implantation failure.

Embryo implantation is a critical and complex process that requires coordination between the embryo and the receptive endometrium for its success. However, a multitude of factors have the potential to contribute to implantation failure. Among these factors, bacterial infections in the uterine environment are of particular concern and are increasingly being considered as a contributing factor to implantation failure. The presence of pat…
