چکیده اصلی

BACKGROUND: The procedures used for the neuropsychological assessment of patients with dementia have been undergoing significant transformations relating to technological developments and the diffusion of artificial intelligence tools. OBJECTIVES: The integration of a theoretical position and a practical approach is needed in clinical contexts so that newly available tools can enhance the fundamental principles underlying neuropsychological assessment. METHODS: Following a historical review of the various approaches to neuropsychological assessment, an analysis of the risks associated with the introduction of digital techniques, when not supervised by expert clinicians, is presented. The need to integrate new technologies in a comprehensive assessment involving clinical observation, ad-hoc tests, and other sources of information such as neuroimaging and neurophysiological data is discussed. RESULTS: The integration of new technologies with a clinical, personalised approach to the patient represents a challenge for neuropsychology that deserves ad-hoc research and discussion.

Single-cell and spatial transcriptomics inform mechanistic physiology in non-model animals.

Comparative physiology increasingly requires cellular resolution at the level of cell types, tissue microenvironments, and regulatory programs that associate genotype with function under environmental variation. Bulk transcriptomics and tissue-level assays have revealed pathways associated with stress responses, metabolic shifts, and developmental transitions; however, they average signals across heterogeneous cell populations and freq…

Artificial intelligence in clinical neurophysiology: IFCN handbook chapter.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform clinical neurophysiology by enabling the automated analysis of complex physiological signals and large amounts of data. While traditional clinical interpretation relies heavily on expert visual inspection, which is vulnerable to subjectivity and inter-rater variability, AI models excel at identifying patterns in complex time series. This chapter provides an overview of current…

Problem-Based Learning and Simulation-Based Learning in Clinical Endocrinology Education: Applications and Future Directions.

Diagnosing and treating endocrine diseases is a highly complex endeavor requiring advanced clinical reasoning, decision-making, and practical skills. However, traditional medical teaching approaches are unable to fully cater to the cultivation of these skills among residents. Thus, reforming the current teaching model utilized in clinical endocrinology education by introducing problem-based learning (PBL) and simulation-based learning …

Extracellular Electrophysiological Recording of Visually Evoked Swim Pacemaker Signals from the Isolated Rhopalium of Tripedalia cystophora.

The box jellyfish Tripedalia cystophora combines image-forming lens eyes and well-characterized visually guided behaviors with a tractable rhopalial nervous system of approximately 1000 neurons, making it an emerging model for systems-level investigation of visual information processing and sensorimotor integration. Swim pacemaker neurons generate motor commands directly controlling bell contractions, and these signals can be recorded …
