چکیده اصلی

Nipah virus (NiV) is a single-stranded negative-sense RNA virus of the genus Henipavirus, family Paramyxoviridae. The World Health Organization has declared NiV a priority pathogen with a great public health risk due to its epidemic potential and lack of sufficient countermeasures. In humans, the virus causes Nipah viral disease (NVD), characterized by acute respiratory failure and/or encephalitis. Long-term assessments of NVD survivors have revealed persistent neurological dysfunction, including encephalopathy, cerebral atrophy, hyperintensities, ocular motor palsies, and dystonia. The entry of NiV into the central nervous system (CNS) is one of the critical and less studied aspects of its pathogenesis. NiV rapidly targets the olfactory epithelial cells in the nasal turbinate and subsequently infects neurons, allowing its spread into the CNS via axonal transport. In addition, infection of immature dendritic cells has been associated with severe CNS disease, supporting a potential role of hematogenous dissemination in neuroinvasion. Overall, understanding the molecular mechanism and the role of host factors in NiV neuropathogenesis is crucial for developing effective strategies to combat NVD. The present review delves into the neuropathogenic mechanism and immunobiology of NiV infection, as well as advancements in therapeutic modalities and vaccines against NVD.

A One Health Molecular Investigation and Exploratory Epidemiological Analysis of Cryptosporidium spp. in A Shared Human-Animal Ecosystem.

INTRODUCTION: Cryptosporidium spp. are enteric protozoan parasites of public health importance, particularly in low-resource settings where humans, animals and environmental water sources frequently interact. This study investigated the prevalence, molecular diversity and environmental exposure-related variables in relation to Cryptosporidium infection in a rural community. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using 180 faeca…

Giardia duodenalis in domestic cats from the US and Canada: Prevalence and zoonotic potential.

Giardia duodenalis is a flagellated commensal protozoan that can infect both humans and animals. Infection can result in clinical signs such as diarrhea or, more often, the infection can be subclinical. Within the G. duodenalis species, there are several major genetic assemblages, A - H. Certain assemblages are species specific (C and D in dogs, F in cats) while assemblages A and B can infect humans as well as other mammals. This retro…

Frequency of Human Brucellosis Complications in West Asia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Brucellosis is a multi-systemic zoonotic infection. The West Asia/Middle East region is an important global hotspot for brucellosis. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to aggregate and synthesize all the available evidence regarding the complications of brucellosis in West Asia/Middle East region. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Proquest were searched. Selection of studies, d…

Non-Human Primates as Sentinels and Reservoirs of Emerging Zoonotic Diseases in Indonesia: A One Health Perspective on Pathogen Spillover, Surveillance Gaps, and Regulatory Frameworks.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Indonesia harbors extraordinary non-human primate (NHP) diversity, yet deforestation, ecotourism, illegal wildlife trade, and urban encroachment are intensifying human-NHP contact, elevating pathogen spillover risk. This review synthesizes evidence on NHP-associated zoonoses within a One Health framework and proposes an integrated biosurveillance roadmap. METHODS: A structured search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of S…
