چکیده اصلی

Sensory affective habituation reflects the dynamic adjustment of affective responses during repeated sensory exposure and is an important component of adaptive affective processing. Acute psychological stress may alter this process, yet its neural mechanisms remain poorly understood. The present study examined how acute stress modulates affective and neural responses during repeated exposure to two odor stimuli differing in affective valence. Twenty-four healthy young men completed the Socially Evaluated Cold Pressor Test (SECPT) and a non-stressful control condition in separate sessions, followed by an olfactory habituation functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) paradigm with repeated online ratings of odor pleasantness and intensity. Behaviorally, acute stress accelerated affective habituation across repeated exposure to the two odor stimuli, with no reliable evidence that this effect differed between PEA and FMA. ROI-based fMRI analyses showed reduced overall responses under stress in the hippocampus, piriform cortex, and orbitofrontal cortex. Exploratory ROI analyses revealed that the hippocampus showed nominal stress-related alterations in response dynamics across repeated odor exposure, with no reliable evidence that this effect differed between the two odor stimuli; however, this effect did not survive correction across the predefined ROIs and requires independent replication. Together, these findings indicate that acute stress alters subjective affective habituation during repeated olfactory stimulation and modulates overall responses within olfactory-limbic regions, while providing preliminary evidence for altered hippocampal response dynamics.

A Microscopy Toolkit for Root Studies in B. distachyon.

The study of plant organogenesis presents significant challenges due to the small number of cells involved in its initial stages. Observing the initial cell divisions becomes increasingly challenging when transitioning from Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) to other species. Lateral root (LR) initiation is an essential process for enhancing a plant's ability to access water and nutrients. In most cases, LR formation starts in the peri…

Advanced Image Generation for Cancer and Stem Cell Biology Using Diffusion Models.

Deep learning has transformed medical image analysis, but progress in cancer and stem cell applications is often constrained by limited access to large, diverse, well-annotated imaging datasets. This bottleneck is especially acute for studies of tumor heterogeneity and cancer stem cell (CSC) biology, where rare phenotypes and dynamic cell-state transitions-frequently linked to stemness-associated transcriptional programs (e.g., OCT4, S…

Automated Quantification and Morphometric Analysis of Pluripotent Stem Cell Colonies Using ColonyQuant.

Alkaline phosphatase staining is routinely used to evaluate the undifferentiated state of embryonic stem cells, yet quantitative interpretation of colony assays frequently depends on manual inspection and categorical scoring that introduce subjectivity and limit scalability. ColonyQuant provides a standardized, automated framework for objective analysis of alkaline phosphatase-stained colonies from conventional bright-field images. The…

Cell Biology of Botrytis: Live-Cell Imaging Techniques and Protein Localization Protocols.

Botrytis cinerea is a widely studied model organism for plant-fungal interactions. This chapter provides simple and easy protocols for live-cell imaging techniques and subcellular protein localization studies in B. cinerea in vitro. Using a simple microscopy setup, we describe methods for imaging spore germlings and hyphae and for studying protein dynamics in response to the antifungal compound α-tomatine. The protocols highlight the a…
